World War 1 A Short Timeline 1919-20
The Allies decide upon the terms of peace, a process they hope will shape the future of post-war Europe... Historians still debate the consequences of these decisions, especially those behind the Versailles Treaty. While experts have dialed back from the idea that Versailles automatically caused World War 2, you can make a strong case that the war guilt clause, the reparations demand and the whole imposition of Versailles on a new socialist government wounded the new Weimar regime so greatly that Hitler had an easier job of subverting the nation, taking power, and destroying huge parts of Europe. 1919 â⬠¢ January 18: Start of Paris peace negotiations. The Germans are not given a fair place at the table, as many in Germany were expecting given their armies were still on foreign land. The allies are deeply divided on their aims, with the French wanting to cripple Germany for centuries, and Woodrow Wilsons American delegation wanting a League of Nations (although the American people were much less keen on the idea.) There are a lot of nations present, but events are dominated by a small group.â⬠¢ June 21: The German High Seas Fleet is scuttled at Scapa Flow by the Germans rather than allow it to come into possession of the allies.â⬠¢ June 28th: The Treaty of Versailles is signed by Germany and the Allies. It is labelled a diktat in Germany, a dictated peace, not the negotiations they were hoping to be allowed to take part in. It probably damaged the hopes of peace in Europe for many years after, and will be the subject of books for many more.â⬠¢ September 10: The Trea ty of St Germain en Laye is signed by Austria and the Allies.br/>â⬠¢ November 27: The Treaty of Neuilly is signed by Bulgaria and the Allies. 1920 â⬠¢ June 4: The Treaty of Trianon is signed by Hungary and the Allies.â⬠¢ August 10: The Treaty of Sà ©vres is signed by the former Ottoman Empire and the Allies. As the Ottoman Empire no longer practically exists, more conflict follows. On the one hand, World War 1 was over. The armies of the Entente and Central Powers were no longer locked in battle, and the process of repairing the damage had begun (and in fields across Europe, continues to this day as bodies and munitions are still found in the soil.) On another hand, wars were still being waged. Smaller wars, but conflicts directly triggered by by the chaos of the war, and leading on after it, such as the Russian Civil War. A recent book has used this notion to study the end and extended it into the 1920s. Theres an argument you could look at the current middle east and extend the conflict yet further. Movie Review The War On Drugs - 1290 Words
After an increasing interest for television series based on true stories, Netflix came out with their own version of such a TV show. Narcos, a television show based around the life of drug kingpins of the 1980s, suddenly hit the international audience after its style of shooting and storyline struck interest among many. The show is set in Columbia and Netflix describes it as ââ¬Å"The true story of Colombiaââ¬â¢s infamously violent and powerful drug cartels fuels this gritty new gangster drama series,â⬠(Netflix, 2015). So far two seasons have been released on Netflix which mainly emphasizes the sudden rise and gradual downfall of Pablo Escobarââ¬â¢s life and the Medellin Cartel, however the coming seasons are set to portray the other drug cartels that carried on after Pablo Escobar was killed. The director Josà © Padilha created the show in such a way that it truly brings out the American perspective on the war on drugs in Columbia; one that has left a significant mark in Columbian history. Padilha closely recreated the law enforcementââ¬â¢s ââ¬âDrug Enforcement Agency and the Columbian policeââ¬â¢s ââ¬â involvement in the war against Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel, through DEA agent Steve Murphyââ¬â¢s (Boyd Holbrook) voice over narration in episodes. Factors leading to the Incident The major factor leading to the incident is the failure to carry out the three drug check properly. Despite the nurses conducting the drug check, they never did it effectively leading to error in medication. The three drug check requires nurses to check the drugs three times before giving them to the patients, this means that, the drug should be checked before and after administering (Excellence, 2013). The aim is to ensure that the right drug and dosage is administered to the right patient at the right time and through the right method (Westbrook, Lehnbom, Baysari, Braithwaite, Burke Day, 2015). The first check that the nurses should have done was to take the drugs from the medical cupboard and compare it to what is given in the patients medical record to check if they are agreeing. The second check would have been done before giving it to the patient and the third check was to check the drug after administering it to the patient (Kim Bates, 2013). Mary and the graduate nurse cond ucted the first drug check when retrieving it from the medical cupboard, which they compare to what is given in the medical chart. However, the nurse fails o conduct the second drug check which is done right before giving the patient the medication. In this case, the nurse does not identify the correct S8 medication for her patients as she does not take her time to check the drug label for the second time before giving it to her patient. Error in medication can be detrimental, therefore, it is imperative for healthcare providers to conduct the three drug check in order to avoid such mistakes (McLeod, Barber Franklin, 2013). The other factor that had contributed to the error is the failure by the nurses to execute their duties autonomously. Each nurse was assigned their specific patient and each nurse was supposed to administer the S8 medication to their assigned patient. In this case, after taking the drugs from the cupboard, each nurse could have confirmed the drugs meant for their patient . However, this was not done. Mary allowed the registered nurse to administer the drugs on her behalf, which is a mistake. If she had administered the medication herself, she would have been in a better position to identify the drugs before giving it to the patient. therefore, it is imperative for nurses to execute their duties independently to avoid confusions and errors in medication (Alsulami, Choonara Conroy, 2014). Finally, lack of pharmaceutical knowledge played a role in the incident. From the case study analysis, the graduated nurse had been working in the wards for only six months, this means that, she might have lacked the pharmaceutical experience and knowledge in drug administration. Such knowledge is essential for healthcare providers to identify drugs. Therefore, it is important for nurses to enhance their pharmaceutical knowledge to enable them differentiate between medications (Ashcroft, Lewis,Tully, Farragher, Taylor, Wass Dornan, 2015). What I would have done differently In my future practice as a nurse, I will make sure I follow the three drug check to avoid mistakes. For instance, I had two medical cups, therefore, I would have been keen on the drug I was administering to the patient. One of the best way I will do this is by being careful when preparing the medication for my patients and by following drug administration procedures. According to the NSQHS standards on the safety of medication states that healthcare providers should follow the three drug check when giving patients medications to avoid mistakes (Flanigan, 2016). In this case, to avoid such mistakes from happening, first, during the medical checks, I will confirm more than ones to ensure the right patient receives the correct medication. in addition, I will also ensure that I follow the proper procedures when administering drugs, which include giving the right medication to the right patient, at a correct dose, and at the right time. For instance, in the incidence, two patients were re ceiving medication which is almost similar, I would have advised the nurses to label the drugs according to the drug names. By doing so, it would have been easier for the graduated nurse to identify which medication belonged to which patient. In addition, at the bed side before giving the patient the medication, I could have used patient identifiers to enable me identify the correct drug I was giving the patient. the most ideal ways to identify the patient is by checking their identification number or name either verbally, manually, or electronically to ensure the patients details are correct before giving them the medicine. Also, drug confirmation is imperative as it reduces confusions, which can lead to errors (Nanji, Patel, Shaikh, Seger Bates, 2016). In this case, if I was in this kind of situation, I would have confirmed the drugs before giving them to the patients. Alternatively, instead of me giving the medication to both patients, I would have requested Mary to administer the medication to her patient as I did to mine to avoid confusions. In addition, I would have considered revising on my pharmaceutical knowledge in order to broaden my knowledge on drugs and medication. Finally, according to the NMBA codes of professional conduct and standards, it is important for healthcare providers to follow protocol when administering medication (AustralianNursing Council, 2003) . For instance, each nurse was assigned specific patients and no nurse should handle the others patient unless proper communication is given from the doctor. My Man I sat on the beach eyeing the brown haired hunk who sat all alone a little way away from me. I kept thinking of whether I should get up and "accidentally" trip next to him. After pondering this for about 15 minutes, I decided what the heck- I didn't have anything to lose. As I Got up, I glanced over one more towards his direction, I saw the most horrid sight! Sitting right next to him, was some blonde haired girl, wearing the skimpiest bikini I had ever seen! I decided I still wanted to go and get up, but to stretch my legs, and besides, the water was looking really nice. I walked to the water, past my man, and I tried to listen to what they were saying to each other. As I did this, in all my efforts to look inconspicuous, I tripped and fell right next to them!! The blonde bimbo looked over at me and started laughing!! She got up, came over, and said "Ooops! Heh, that's MY bag." Okay, if she had been sincere, fine, I wouldn't have been so mad. But, well, if she had been any more fake, I'm sure she would have turned into plastic or something! Anyway, I got up, brushed off my legs, and with a little "hmph" I walked off. I sat down by the water and fantasized about how wonderful it would be if it were me with him. Soon though, in thinking that, my anguish turned into anger, and my anger into hatred. Hatred for that mean girl who had what belonged to me! I wanted to go up to her and hit her across the face and I wanted to show her who was the boss. I wanted to show her what happens to people who are rude to me. In my thoughts, I saw them both running up to the water, hand in hand, laughing. I sat there, staring at the girl, wishing as hard as I could that something could perhaps attack her or something, leaving me with my man. Suddenly, almost as if someone were answering my prayer, and giant shark came and took the girl away! He turned and looked in my direction. He then walked over to me, and took me in his arms, telling me I was the only one he ever wanted. We walked to his beautiful, sleek silver BMW Z-3. We drove off, the sun setting in the back of us. Aaah, if only life was like that. The things I imagine, well, Amazing is all I can say. After day dreaming that scenario, I got up, got my things together, and without another look at the two love birds, I left. Drove home, took a shower, and went to bed. I realized beauty always is put over intellectualness. Perhaps someday someone would realize to look inside a person before the look at the outside.
